Are you ready for mCommerce?

So just when customers are finally coming round to the idea of eCommerce, there’s a new kid on the block – mCommerce. So, what is it?

mCommerce is simply ‘mobile’ commerce. As the world continues to consume technology at an ever faster rate, the current trend seems to be to smaller, more flexible ‘mobile’ devices. Still currently the mainstay of the ubiquitous mobile phone, or ‘smart’ phone, the move by Apple earlier this year to set out it stall for tablet computing with the iPad means that most tech companies are now following suit. With the likes of the Samsung Galaxy and the Blackberry Playbook following within 6 months of the iPad’s launch, it’s clear that consumers are ready for yet another evolution.

With 10% of UK consumers planning to do at least some of their Christmas shopping through a mobile device according to research by Tesco Direct, online retail shopping is set for yet another revolution. But this time is more about offering content that is mobile friendly, quick and ultimately, convenient and less about engaging customers with rich content and brand affinity.
